Blackwater Honey has been voted the People’s Choice Award winner at the Great Taste Awards.
It’s deserved recognition for brothers Andrew and John Shinnick, who continue to create a buzz since co-founding the business in 2020.
It is inspired by the River Blackwater in their hometown of Fermoy, Co. Cork, and beekeeping runs deep in the family. With three generations and over sixty years of experience, the Shinnicks have honed an approach that has turned what began as a small, hobbyist venture into Ireland’s most awarded honey, steadily building a hive of accolades along the way.
This year alone, their Blossom Honey became the first in Ireland to win a coveted 3-Star Great Taste Award, while their Heather Honey took home 2 Stars, both now shortlisted for the Golden Fork Award from Ireland.
But the Shinnicks see awards as only part of the story. Blackwater Honey is also deeply committed to the bees themselves, raising awareness of the threat posed by the invasive Asian hornet and championing the protection of Ireland’s pollinators. After all, happy bees make the sweetest honey.
Their mission is clear: to craft honey that celebrates nature’s best, while ensuring the bees at the heart of it all are protected for generations to come.
More accolades are on the horizon, including shortlisting in the Irish Made Awards 2025 for both Food and Sustainability.
