Mallow author Aisling De Barra is celebrating another milestone with the release of her second children’s picture book, Milly’s Family Picture, continuing her work to improve representation of LGBTQ+ families in children’s literature.
The new publication follows Aisling’s debut book, Loved Just the Same, which explored family diversity and the different ways families are formed.

Milly’s Family Picture follows a young girl named Milly who is asked to draw her family as part of a school activity. While her classmates get busy with their drawings, Milly hesitates, feeling unsure of how her own family will be seen.
With encouragement from a classmate, she comes to understand that families come in many forms and that what matters most is the love they share.
Her latest release comes as Aisling has also received recognition through a nomination for Artist of the Year at the Out & Outstanding in Cork Awards, where she features on the LGBTI+ Artist/Arts Group of the Year shortlist.

Announcing the arrival of her second book, Aisling said that while creating a book can be a slow process, things can sometimes happen very quickly.
As with her first publication, she explained that she had poured herself into the project, wanting to make it as good as possible.
“There is still such a lack of representation for LGBTQ+ families across books and media and I’m extremely happy to be working to fill that gap,” she said.
Aisling is now encouraging readers to take a look at the new book, share it with friends and family, and support the release by purchasing a copy.
Reflecting on the support she has received over the past year, she thanked everyone who has helped her along the way.
“Being an author was always my biggest dream and I am so delighted to be living this dream,” she said.
Milly’s Family Picture is available to purchase through Amazon.
