The double is on for Conor Shanahan, Castletownroche’s James Deane is chasing the same dream.
Two Avondhu drivers remain in contention for both the Drift Masters and Formula DRIFT championships as the 2026 season heads towards a dramatic finish.
Shanahan’s second-place finish at Ferropolis moved him to third in Drift Masters on 370 points, 66 behind leader Piotr Więcek. Deane sits fourth on 337, with 108 points available in the Warsaw finale on September 11 and 12.
Then Shanahan turned up the heat in Formula DRIFT.
The Killavullen driver stormed to victory at Evergreen Speedway in Seattle, defeating three-time champion Fredric Aasbo in a titanic Final.
The Red Bull / GT Radial / Jerry Yang Racing Toyota GT86 driver was relentless throughout the night, with the judges eventually awarding him the win on fewer faults.
The victory lifted Shanahan from fifth to second in the championship, where he now sits on 159 points, just five behind Deane on 164.
It sets up a remarkable Avondhu battle at the top of Formula DRIFT, with the five-time reigning champion Deane refusing to surrender his lead.
Deane was knocked out by Matt Field in the Top 16 in Seattle but retained the championship lead. He too remains mathematically alive in Drift Masters, meaning both men could yet complete the extraordinary double.
And there is another Avondhu contender in the Formula DRIFT fight.
Jack Shanahan is back in fourth on 131 points after finishing fifth in Seattle. He was eliminated in the Top 8 by Aasbo following an over-rotation in Zone 5.
Formula DRIFT now heads to Las Vegas from September 24-26 before the championship finale in Long Beach in October.
