For Tom Edwards and The Outdated, a dream that started with a guitar in a bedroom is now bringing them to one of the community’s biggest events, Together at the Castle, a Mental Health & Wellbeing event taking place at Mallow Castle.
The young Mallow band will perform at an event headlined by East Cork rockers Hell For Leather.
For a band still building its name, the opportunity represents an exciting milestone and a chance to introduce their music to a wider audience.
Speaking to Mallow & District Live at the launch of Together at the Castle, frontman Tom Edwards said the band are delighted to be part of an event that celebrates live music in their hometown.
“We’re one of the lucky ones who have been invited to play for a few minutes, for an hour, to bring up the vibes and have a good time,” Tom said.
The Outdated are bringing a set packed with familiar favourites, focusing on songs that audiences can sing along to.
For the young band, being involved in an event like Together at the Castle is about more than just playing a set, it is about building awareness and being part of the local music scene.
“It’s great to be involved in an event like this. It’s spreading the word about us and it’s a great event to be part of. It’s our home town.”
The story of The Outdated is one familiar to many young musicians. It began simply, with a love of music and the ambition to play.
“It’s a dream come true to go from playing guitar in my room,” Tom explained.
“One day you meet one fella and ask, do you want to play one song? One thing leads to another, next thing you know you’re with three lads you didn’t even know before, and now you’re best friends.”
That friendship has helped drive the band forward, with The Outdated continuing to build momentum through live performances.
The group already has a busy schedule ahead, with seven more gigs planned, including appearances at The Arches Bar and Hannah’s Griffins bar Skenakilla Cross, in September and October, with further dates to be announced.
