Girls’ football clubs across Mallow, Buttevant, Kanturk and the wider North Cork region are set to benefit from the planned development of a new dedicated home for the Cork Women’s and Schoolgirls Soccer League (CWSSL) at Casement Park.
The project will create what is expected to become Ireland’s first dedicated girls’ soccer centre, providing first-class facilities for young players from across Cork and helping to strengthen the pathway from grassroots football to the highest levels of the game.
For years, Cork’s girls’ teams have travelled between different venues to train and play. The Casement Park development will provide a permanent base where players can develop their skills, compete, and progress in a dedicated football environment.
Phase one of the development will see the creation of a full-size floodlit all-weather pitch, along with further planned improvements including upgraded playing surfaces, changing rooms, meeting facilities, access roads and parking.
The centre will provide significant opportunities for clubs throughout North Cork, giving young players access to improved facilities and supporting their development both as footballers and as individuals.
The facility will also support CWSSL representative teams, including Cork’s interleague squads, while creating a central hub for coaching, player development and community use.
The long-term vision is to create a facility capable of hosting major underage fixtures and potentially international youth games, while helping develop the next generation of Irish footballers.
The CWSSL is now inviting businesses and organisations to become partners in the development of the Casement Park Soccer Centre.
The project aims to provide generations of young players with a first-class facility where they can learn, develop and work towards achieving their sporting ambitions.
