The curtain is set to fall on another unforgettable summer of outdoor theatre as The Verdant Troupe returns to Doneraile Park for the grand finale of its 2026 season on Sunday, August 2.
The final performance of Secrets of Doneraile Court, Tour & Theatre promises an afternoon where history steps off the page and into the parkland, transforming one of North Cork’s most treasured heritage sites into a living stage filled with kings, ghosts, noble families and fascinating local characters.
The theatrical journey begins with an encounter featuring the formidable King Henry VIII before audiences meet the ghostly Irish chieftain Nicholas Synan. Along the banks of the River Awbeg, the feared Earl of Inchiquin emerges from history, setting the scene for an immersive walk through centuries of stories connected to the Doneraile Estate.
As visitors continue through the park, they will meet the spirited kitchen maid Bridget, discover the intriguing story of The Lady Freemason, and stroll into the Pleasure Garden where Lady May shares her love of nature and fashion.
The experience also brings together two remarkable historical figures as United States Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes meets literary icon Lady Gregory, before the journey continues into the estate’s tranquil walled gardens, where Doneraile’s own master gardener John Haycroft welcomes visitors.
The afternoon reaches its conclusion on the terrace with Lord Barnaby and Lady Ursula Castletown, bringing the final chapter of this unique theatrical adventure to a fitting close.
