Kanturk Riders Shine as Thrilling Three-Day Race Delivers Drama and Excitement

The roads around Kanturk and Duhallow came alive over the weekend as the C1–C2 Kanturk Three Day, promoted by Kanturk Cycling Club O’Leary Stone, delivered a gripping showcase of endurance  and sheer determination.

Across three demanding stages, the race produced everything from blistering time trial performances to aggressive late attacks, with conditions and handicap starts adding an extra layer of drama that kept riders and spectators on edge throughout.

While the overall battle featured many of the country’s top riders going head-to-head, there was plenty for local supporters to cheer, with Kanturk riders producing strong and committed performances across the weekend.

Kris Martinkus led the home challenge, delivering an impressive ride on the Banteer circuit to finish just six seconds off the lead group in Stage 3 after 97km of relentless racing. His performance saw him mix confidently with some of the strongest riders in the field and maintain a strong position in the general classification.

He was well supported by clubmates Arnaud Dumoulin and Ben Murphy, both of whom showed real grit across the three stages, tackling challenging courses and the high-tempo racing that defined the event.

Riders were pushed to the limit over long, demanding stages, with only seconds separating the leading contenders heading into the final phase.

In just three weeks’ time, Banteer will once again welcome the Rás Tailteann, hosting the finish of Stage 2 as the iconic race makes its way through North Cork. The village has a proud and longstanding connection with the Rás, having seen local riders claim all of the top four positions over the years.

With strong home performances and a well-run event attracting riders from across the country, the weekend further cemented Kanturk’s place on the Irish cycling map.
