Mallow’s Fitzgerald Construction Marks 20 Years of Building A-Rated Homes

Mallow-based Fitzgerald Construction has quietly been shaping the North Cork landscape for two decades, delivering high-performance, A-rated homes that combine energy efficiency with lasting quality. The company recently featured in Building Ireland magazine (February 2026, Vol 12 No 2), celebrating its approach to building homes that are ahead of their time.

Founded in 2005 by cousins Daniel and Kieran Fitzgerald, the family-run business has focused on bespoke, one-off houses in the North Cork region, many in and around Mallow, where they have developed a reputation for craftsmanship, attention to detail, and energy-efficient design. While energy-efficient homes have become a major trend today, the Fitzgeralds were building to these standards long before it was mainstream.

“From the very beginning, our goal was to build homes that were futureproofed,” says Daniel Fitzgerald. “We weren’t following trends; we were building what we believed was right. That mindset helped us through the recession and allowed us to maintain steady growth.”

Operating under their Fitzcon Homes banner, the company typically has up to 35 one-off A-rated homes on the go each year. Both directors remain hands-on,splitting their time between office coordination and on-site supervision, and prioritise using local subcontractors and suppliers. “We see ourselves as a Mallow business first. Being visible, supporting local tradespeople, and delivering excellent service is at the heart of what we do,” Daniel explains.

The company has earned praise not just for the quality of its builds but also for its technical expertise. Kieran holds a Degree in Construction Management, while Daniel is a qualified Civil and Structural Engineer. Their technical knowledge helped establish A-rated homes in the region long before energy performance became an industry standard.

Despite two decades of success, Fitzgerald Construction has deliberately avoided over-expansion. Daniel says, “We prefer to maintain the level of service we can offer, rather than chase growth. Reputation is everything, and our focus has always been on delivering high-quality homes that meet our clients’ expectations.”

For readers interested in the wider construction industry, the company’s story and philosophy were recently highlighted in Building Ireland Magazine (Feb 2026), showcasing how a locally focused, family-run business can thrive while leading the way in energy-efficient housing.
