Davis College Students Take the Lead in Building a Dementia-Inclusive Community

Laura Curtin, Community Engagement Officer with The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, visited Davis College Mallow to speak with students about dementia and the importance of creating inclusive communities.

The response from students was inspiring, with thoughtful questions, genuine curiosity, and a keen interest in supporting people living with dementia through future work experience opportunities. Many were particularly engaged with The Alzheimer Society’s ‘Creating a Dementia Inclusive Generation’ programme, which empowers young people to become advocates for change, helping reduce stigma and foster understanding.

Curtin said the visit highlighted the power of youth engagement in shaping a more compassionate future. “Together, we’re empowering young people to become advocates and change-makers in their communities,” she said.

A big thank you was extended to TY Coordinator Dan Dennehy, the staff, and students for their warm welcome and enthusiastic participation. Mallow is showing the way in inspiring the next generation to lead the charge toward a dementia-inclusive Ireland.
