Avondhu clubs are edging ever closer to delivering county titles to the division , that’s the view of Avondhu Chairperson John Courtney, who was speaking at the official launch of the Avondhu Club Championships at Carrigoon, Mallow GAA Grounds.
“I did say last year, I think whoever comes out of Avondhu this year will go on to become county champions – definitely in hurling,” said Courtney. “Charleville, in football, if they get their act together, could win a county too. But it all depends on how they go in the hurling. Once the 13th of September comes, there’s no break for the successful clubs.”
The championships, which get underway in the coming weeks, promise to be fiercely competitive, with many in the division eyeing breakthrough moments.
With 2024 marking the centenary year, last season delivered two historic first-time winners, Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels and Killavullen, achievements that raised the bar for all clubs in the region.
“Another championship, will it be as good as last year? It’s hard to know,” Courtney reflected. “We had two first-time winners last year. Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels and Killavullen won championships for the first time ever. It’ll be hard to surpass that in 2025.”
With high hopes and momentum building, all eyes now turn to the upcoming fixtures as the battle for divisional honours begins anew.
